Hi all! today I’m bringing you guys to a place called Kinarut Mansion, near the Kinarut-Beringgis road with a total distance of 30km from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The Kinarut Mansion or the locals calls it ‘Rumah Besar Kinarut’ others also calls ‘Rumah Besar Agam Kinarut’ was believed been built between the year 1910 and 1914 as a resident to Mr. W.F.C. Asimont, the first manager of Kinarut Rubber Estate in Sabah.

The Kinarut Mansion was declared a historical building in 1993 under the Sabah Land Ordinance. Covering some 7.09 hectares, the mansion and its surroundings were designated a heritage site in 1998 for conservation and it was officially opened to the public in 1995.

The stairs leading all the way up to the site of the Kinarut Mansion.

Looking at the architectural concept of the ruins, it’s merely something typical to Greco-Roman style of building.

Now, what remain are just broken pillars and bricks, however you can still noticed the remnants of the stairs by its size.

There are not many stories related about Kinarut Mansion over the internet, I believed more detail stories can be found over the Sabah Archives office. Therefore some questions of ‘How did this place demolished as it is today?’ ‘What exactly happen to this place?’ ‘Who built the mansion?’ are still remain unanswered.

Today, the Kinarut Mansion is managed under the authority of the Sabah Museum.

Tribe : Bajau
The Bajau tribe are one of the largest ethnic group in Sabah, Borneo Malaysia. Nowadays, there are also known as the “cowboys of the east” who originally has been believed migrated from the southern Philippines about few hundreds years ago. The Bajau are the fisherman, divers and farmers, they were also once before the most dangerous pirates within the Sulu Sea and various seas surrounding the Indonesian island in Sulawesi. While Bajau in the south eastern part of Sabah are very skillful with craftsmanship work where they built their own traditional fishing boat called lepa-lepa boat, they are also known as the Sea Bajau for this. These unique lepa-lepa boats are featured on every annual festival held in Semporna and these boats are decorated with colorful decoration and raced against each other in an annual celebration called Regatta Lepa which explains why they are still commonly called the “sea gypsies”.

Did You Know?
The most significant + symbolic animals to the Bajau is buffalo and horse.

The Malaysia Craft Promotion 2008 was held at the Lintasan Deasoka, Kota Kinabalu on last friday which started at 10am until 10pm. Most of all these handicrafts are originally home-made by a number of Sabahan locals like Bajau, Muruts, Kadazan, Kadayan, Sungai and Brunei.

A number of home-made zipped hand bags.

a perfect souvenir for your NON Sabahan friends

Colorful patterned beads..

Most of the handicrafts comes with lots of choices for you to choose.

These are some of the tools mostly used by the Kadazan community.

Scale model wooden boat by the Sungai community

The exhibitions also showcase several live handicrafts demonstrations.

Hand-made viola..

Vinusak or Litai.. creative home-made beads by the Rungus community.

Below are some pictures I took during the Borneo International Cat Show 2008 last month, held at Sabah Trade Centre.

Wf was there too.. Introducing Kiera, she’s in the Household Pet category.

The Borneo International Cat Show was actually the first show ever held here in Sabah which been officiated by the YB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Yahya Hussin. There were 4 categories of cat.. Championship Class..

..Premiership Class

..Household Cat

and Kitten Class..

Becky Orlando, one of the professional jury from USA.

and Wayne Trevathan also comes from USA (I like this guy)

Those with DSLR really not want to miss a chance to snap all those cute gorgeous cats..

Including this familiar faces.. Oh! it’s Jacq!

and of course, Wei Chuen was there too.

During a cat show, the person you should ask about almost anything about cats that you don’t know is with the appointed CFA Ambassador (left). CFA Ambassador will guide you through the whole process during the cat show.

Just I’ve noticed.. aren’t the participants are not allowed to approach or even speak with the jury during a cat show?

but what’s up with this guy lady!!

Politics is always politics.. She won one of the 1st prize category cat.. mmmm… does her winning got something to do with the two picture above??

The CFA Ribbons..

The smallest kitten of the show.. 10th Best Household Cat

and introducing.. his name is Polar, Kiera’s brother. he’s not participating, just to keep Kiera comfort during the show.

Lastly, wf won the 4th Best Household Cat for Kiera .. not bad ha, for first timer.. yeayyy!! clap! clap! clap!

For photos of the overall winners.. click HERE!

While browsing a few search term in Google last week ago, I found out one really interesting topic for me to share here.

My photo has been duplicate and used by some party without me knowing it.

If you check on this blog ‘About’ page, I’ve put one photo of Kota Kinabalu City view shot by me from the Menara Pemerhati Bukit Bendera about a year ago, and this photo has been used by one of fresh tourism related website with a local office address here in K.K which I manage to track.

I don’t want to publish the website’s url here la as I think it’s fine with me that they can use the photo since they using it for non-profit purpose and since it’s without copyright watermark. Not a big deal actually, it’s just I’m feeling fooled by such a big professional organization like them. Well.. at least they could just drop me an email asking my permission to use my photo, and that would be much appreciated as I got plenty of Kota Kinabalu City view pictures in my data gallery which I might consider giving them for free use.. in HDR some more!

See zoom mode here

Now you readers tell me.. is this a VIOLATION or DISRESPECT?

The first ever International cat show will be held here at the land below the wind, Sabah! Witness a world class pedigree cats on a two day show. Yeayy!! Wife is super happy..
